| Answer | · How much does a website cost?Cost greatly depends on the features and volume of data unique to your particular project. Although Web Designs by Jeffrey doesn't really offer a "cookie-cutter" basic site, you can expect a very basic site to start at five hundred dollars. These are sites that do not grab the visitor's attention for any period of time, but give the basics such as who you are, what you do, and how to contact you, and that's about it.
On-going costs are: Doman name registration - Usually costs about $35 per year, but there are discount registrations services available, and bulk rates for advance payment of registration fees (up to 10 years), and multiple domains.
Site Hosting - Starts at $20 per month for most "personal" hosting plans that may be included with your dial-up internet service. Typically, this type of account is intended for non-commercial use only and provides minimal storage space and traffic allotments. Commercial hosting with your own domain name and email addressses usually starts at about $50 per month for full server access and relational databases. Other charges for extra data storage, large amount of traffic, or enhanced services such as multimedia and ecommerce will incur additional costs.
While I recommend utilizing my hosting services, I can set your site up on the host of your choice.[ Back to Top ]
| | · What should I provide? Here is a good list of things to provide to someone developing a website for you:
- Your goal(s) for the site including who your target audience is, and what you want them to do.
- Your domain name and vendor login info (if required).
- Any text you want included sent via email, or on disk. Usually, ASCII text is best, but discuss this with your developer.
- Any graphics you want included such as logos and photos. Plan media and file formats with your developer ahead of time to avoid costly conversions by a 3rd party.
- Any graphics you want scanned. Indicate cropping or any other editing you require.
- Any special considerations you need to address such as using a specific website host or hosting your own site.

| | · Do I have ownership to my site? Yes, you have 100% ownership of your web site. Take caution in some web design companies, as many will keep rights to your site and insist you also use there hosting services, many times at inflated prices. If you decide to change your hosting company you can move your site free of charge at anytime. [ Back to Top ]
| | · I can get a web site for under $100 custom designed for me, should I do it? You want to be very careful that your webmaster will be there when you need them. That your site belongs to you and not the web designer. That you are not forced into hosting with the company that created your site. Also remember that you can lose customers very quick with a poor online image or poorly designed site, even if you have a great product or service. Look for testimonials, or ask previous clients of their experience with the company or designer. [ Back to Top ]
| | · I bought web design software that I can create my own site, why do I need a professional? As a web designer we can recognize these sites as well as the novice potential customers. Without understanding html, it is very easy to create a site that is a disaster to update or redesign. Web Designers use concepts such as cascading style sheets, java scripts, and database administration to make your site run smooth and be a breeze to update. Also I would recommend having a graphic artist design the site. Designer sites are much more intense and difficult to create in HTML. I honestly would recommend to have a reputable web designer with graphic design and creative skills create and maintain your site. It will save you time and frustration and give you a great looking yet functional site. Web Designs by Jeffrey's goal is to provide affordable and professional web site design with excellent customer service. Some business owners try to create there own web site and end up hurting their business instead of helping it. [ Back to Top ]
| | · My friend or relative said he/she will do it for me for free, why do I need a professional? Customer service and knowledge in the web design field is a must. Are they going to be there when you need them? I see time and time again people trying to get access to there site, or contact there original designer, and fail to get results. If you cant reach who designed your site, do you know how to do update it when needed? Can they "truly" give you the professional look you want your business to have online? Are they graphic artists or just someone that bought a web page creator software? Can they guarantee you they will keep your content fresh and up to date? For how long? [ Back to Top ]
| | · I can save $50 per month by getting a free web site When's the last time you bought products or hired services from a business hosted with a free web site provider? This is definitely a bad idea. Stay away from free sites and free hosting services. The free hosting services available maintain rights to add pop-up windows and advertisements to your site which drives away customers. It also appears unprofessional. Free web design also is used to trap people into hosting contracts, most times at inflated prices, and they also often maintain rights to the web site. [ Back to Top ]
